Associate Underwriter

​​​​​​Agricorp is looking for an Associate Underwriter to join the Underwriting and Account Services, Customer Commitment team in the Program Delivery division.

The Role

The Associate Underwriter is the entry level professional who is accountable for assessing and evaluating risks for standard low-risk applicants and in-force clients of Agricorp's risk management programs (AgriStability, Production Insurance, etc.) to determine the extent of contractual coverage, conditions and exceptions. In this role, you will:

  • Assess the risks of standard, low-risk potential and in-force client files received from front-line customer care representatives, by applying Agricorp's criteria, applicable legislation, standard operating procedures and underwriting principles
  • Determine approvals or exceptions and communicate decisions to the applicant, producer or agent
  • Underwrite the standard mid-term contract changes and renewals on in‑force business
  • Resolve issues within parameters established for case load accountability and ensure proper escalation to an underwriter, specialist or team leader for all others
  • Proactively pay attention to business-sensitive issues and emerging risks and escalate this information to a senior underwriter or team leader
  • Provide professional input into decisions regarding new tools, processes and technology upgrades
  • Make decisions regarding eligibility and exceptions
  • Stay current on Agricorp-administered products and services
  • Participate in team goal setting

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in a related field (business or agriculture) or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 2 years of related underwriting experience, preferably in the financial services sector or agricultural industry
  • Excellent and proven customer service experience
  • Dispute and conflict resolution experience an asset
  • Training courses in risk management or underwriting an asset
  • Willingness to pursue courses towards an underwriting designation (CIP or FIIC)
