Underwriter

​​Agricorp is looking for an U​nderwriter to join the Underwriting and Account Services, Customer Commitment team in the Program Delivery division.

The Role

The underwriter is accountable for professionally assessing and evaluating risks of potential and current clients of Agricorp’s business risk management programs such as AgriStablility and Production Insurance. Reporting to the team leader of Underwriting Services, the under​writer determines the extent of contractual coverage, conditions and exceptions within a pre-assigned sector group or authority limit. In this role, you will:

  • Receive escalated files from Customer Care Services
  • Create or open client files, assessing application eligibility for enrolment in Agricorp programs, source incomplete data, research and investigate discrepancies or missing data and align information to underwriting criteria
  • Deal directly with clients, agencies and producers, collaborating with other internal colleagues to resolve client issues
  • Underwrite mid-term contract changes and renewals on in-force business
  • Proactively provide information that is pertinent to resolution of issues and disputes by informing the Underwriting Specialist or Team Leader of discrepancies or irregularities that may lead to high risk
  • Make decisions regarding risks and exceptions around issuing a contract and decide which exceptions and categories apply within authority levels
  • Determine approval or exceptions and communicate this decision to the applicant or their representative (agency or producer)
  • Stay current on Agricorp programs and services, standard operating procedures and associated regulations
  • Provide technical advice as needed
  • Coach and mentor associate underwriters and peers

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in a related field (i.e., mathematics, finance, commerce, business or agricultural sciences) or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 3 – 5 years of related underwriting experience, preferably in financial services or the agricultural industry
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate with diverse groups including clients, agencies, producers and other professionals
  • Training courses in risk management or underwriting an asset
  • Working knowledge of related federal and provincial agreements and legislation an asset (PIPEDA, Crop Insurance Act, Grains Act, FOI, Marketing Boards)
  • Audit experience an asset
  • Dispute and conflict resolution experience an asset
  • Working towards a professional underwriting designation (e.g., CIP or FIIC designation) an asset
