The Canada-Ontario Apple and Tender Fruit Weather Risk Mitigation Strategy Initiative provided a one-time payment to support and encourage apple and tender fruit producers to develop a risk mitigation strategy for dealing with adverse weather.
The final deadline to apply for funding was February 28, 2013, and this initiative is now closed. Under this initiative, Agricorp issued $1.6 million to 469 eligible apple and tender fruit producers in Ontario.
How it worked
Eligible producers were required to submit a signed weather risk mitigation strategy Application-Workbook for review, showing that they had considered their major farm risks and the risk mitigation options available to them. At a minimum, the strategy had to identify the following:
- Three weather risks
- One mitigation option per risk
- One advantage and disadvantage for each mitigation option
- The top three mitigation options for implementation plus a reason for choosing each option.
Payment amounts were based on the producer’s confirmed 2011 gross income from sales of apples and/or tender fruit. Producers were required to provide proof of income.
|$7,000 to $99,999.99
|$100,000 to $499,999.99
|$500,000 or more
New growers who reported income from sales of apples and/or tender fruit in the 2012 or 2013 tax year were eligible for $2,000.
