Plum Pox Eradication Program

Overview

The Plum Pox Eradication Program supports the federal and provincial government strategy to eliminate the plum pox virus in Ontario by 2011.

To date, affected growers have received over $13.5 million in asset loss assistance.

What the Plum Pox Eradication Program offers

  • Compensation to help cover the loss of income when plum-pox affected trees are removed. You receive a fixed rate per tree, determined by crop, species, program year and age of tree.
  • Reduction of the threat of the plum pox virus to Ontario’s thriving peach, plum, nectarine and apricot industry, valued at nearly $36 million.

Funding is provided by the federal and provincial governments.

The current financial assistance program, expected to end March 31, 2011, is on hold pending further information from the federal government.
