The Plum Pox Eradication Program supports the federal and provincial government strategy to eliminate the plum pox virus in Ontario by 2011.
To date, affected growers have received over $13.5 million in asset loss assistance.
What the Plum Pox Eradication Program offers
- Compensation to help cover the loss of income when plum-pox affected trees are removed. You receive a fixed rate per tree, determined by crop, species, program year and age of tree.
- Reduction of the threat of the plum pox virus to Ontario’s thriving peach, plum, nectarine and apricot industry, valued at nearly $36 million.
Funding is provided by the federal and provincial governments.
The current financial assistance program, expected to end March 31, 2011, is on hold pending further information from the federal government.
