Programs

Agricorp delivers a variety of programs and payments on behalf of the federal and provincial governments. Agricorp’s programs protect Ontario producers against many of the business and agricultural risks they face every day.

Production Insurance

Production Insurance covers production losses and yield reductions caused by insured perils. Depending on the plan, coverage is available on a total-yield, dollar-value, or acreage-loss basis. Producers can choose the type and level of coverage that best meets their needs.

AgriStability

AgriStability covers margin declines caused by any combination of production losses, adverse market conditions, or increased costs. If a producer’s margin falls below 85 percent of their recent average, AgriStability helps to offset the difference.

Grain Financial Protection Program

The Grain Financial Protection Program protects the financial interests of grain producers who store their grain at licensed elevators or who sell their grain to licensed dealers. A fund is available to protect producers in case a licensed dealer or elevator defaults on a payment.

Farm Business Registration

All farms that gross more than $7,000 must register each year under the Farm Business Registration (FBR) program. Registered farming operations are eligible to apply for the farmland property class tax rate. The annual fee pays for a membership in an accredited farm organization of the producer’s choice.

AgriInvest

AgriInvest is a savings account that producers can use to either cover small income declines or support other investments. Each year, producers can deposit up to 1.5 percent of their Allowable Net Sales (ANS) into a bank account and receive a matching government contribution. Producers can withdraw funds at any time.

Orchards and Vineyards Transition Program

The Canada-Ontario Orchards and Vineyards Transition Program (OVTP) helps grape, apple and tender fruit producers adapt to industry pressures and changing markets. This joint federal-provincial program pays part of the costs of removing unprofitable orchard and vineyard stock.

Plum Pox Eradication Program

The Plum Pox Eradication Program supports the federal and provincial government strategy to eliminate the plum pox virus in Ontario. The program compensates producers for lost income due to the removal of plum pox-affected trees.

Risk Management Program

The Risk Management Program (RMP) is a price support program designed to help Ontario grain and oilseed producers offset losses caused by low commodity prices. The program was originally introduced as a pilot for the 2007, 2008, and 2009 crop years. The Government of Ontario has extended it for the 2010 crop year while the national review of current programs is underway.
