AgriInvest
AgriInvest is a savings account with matching government contributions. You can withdraw the funds at any time for risk mitigation or investments.
AgriStability and AgriInvest are based on your tax information. When you submit your tax information on the correct tax form, it will be used by Agricorp for AgriStability and by Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada for AgriInvest.
Even though AgriStability and AgriInvest are separate programs (and are delivered by different organizations), you need only to submit your tax form once. It is automatically used for both programs. In Ontario, AgriInvest is delivered by Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada.
Production Insurance (PI)
The AgriStability program works together with Production Insurance to help you manage business risk. That's why your PI claims and premiums are included in your AgriStability margins. Production Insurance Premium Adjustment (PIPA) payments are issued when Line A is greater than Line B, as shown below:
Line A = AgriStability payment, excluding PI claims and premiums from your margins
Line B = Total program payments (AgriStability payment + net PI income)
Your payment is the difference between Line A and Line B. The maximum payment is a full refund of your PI premiums relating to the program year.
Risk Management Program (RMP)
AgriStability and the Risk Management Program (RMP) work together to create an effective risk management program for Ontario producers. Each program addresses different risks:
- RMP helps producers offset losses caused by low livestock or commodity prices
- AgriStability provides coverage when your production margin drops to less than 85 percent of your reference margin.
RMP helps producers manage risks beyond their control, like fluctuating costs and market prices. The program is available for the cattle, edible horticulture, grain and oilseed, hog, sheep and veal sectors.
Starting in 2012, participation in AgriStability is an eligibility requirement for all RMP plans.
RMP payments count as an advance on the provincial portion of your AgriStability benefit. If your RMP payment is greater than the provincial portion of your AgriStability benefit, you will keep the greater payment.
RMP payments and premiums are non-allowable income and expenses under AgriStability.
