Production Insurance winterkill coverage for winter canola is being extended to more eastern Ontario counties for the 2026 program year, including:
- Hastings
- Hastings 2
- Lennox and Addington
- Frontenac
- Lanark
- Leeds & Grenville
- Ottawa
- Prescott-Russell
- Stormont-Dundas and Glengarry
Winter canola growers in these counties who have Production Insurance coverage for their crop will automatically get winterkill coverage.

Winterkill coverage can protect farmers from losses due to winterkill, where crops are damaged or lost due to winter conditions, such as freezing temperatures and snow cover. If a crop is damaged or lost due to winterkill, farmers may be eligible for a replant claim to cover the costs of replanting, up to a maximum per-acre rate set by Agricorp. Claim payments reflect the average cost of seed, tillage, and planting.
Winterkill coverage is also available for fall rye, winter barley, winter wheat, and pedigreed seed winter wheat.
