Planting coverage explained

May 12, 2026

Planting is one of the most critical and costly tasks of the year for Ontario farmers. When insured perils interfere – whether crops can't be planted or fields need to be reseeded – Production Insurance provides built‑in coverage that can help offset those risks.

If insured perils mean crops can't be planted or need to be reseeded, farmers can get a payment.

*Unseeded acreage coverage is available for most commodities. Select your commodity on agricorp.com to see if it's included.

Replanting coverage

For crops that are planted but need to be reseeded, replant coverage can help offset the average cost of seed, tillage, and planting. Coverage applies whether the same crop is replanted or a different insurable commodity is chosen by the deadline. The total reseeded acres need to not exceed insured acres.

Unseeded acreage coverage

When insured perils prevent planting, unseeded acreage coverage helps offset fixed costs and land maintenance.
