With the planting season for
winter wheat wrapped up, Ontario farmers have covered 697,000 acres under Production Insurance for the 2024 program year.
With Production Insurance coverage, farmers get a guaranteed level of production for their crops and claim prices that reflect market prices. They also get coverage against winterkill, and they may be eligible for a replant claim of $128 per acre if their crop doesn't survive the winter.
Farmers who didn't insure their crop this fall can still
apply for Production Insurance coverage without winterkill by May 1, 2024.
