Anyone who purchases canola, grain corn, soybeans or wheat from a producer, for any purpose other than personal use, must have a grain dealer licence. Any person who operates an elevator and stores grain other than their own must have a grain elevator operator licence.
The Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs has extended the licence renewal date issued under Grain Financial Protection Program for dealers and elevator operators. The extension is for the following period: 90 days after the COVID-19 provincial emergency order is lifted under the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act. There have been no other changes to the program or the existing provisions in place that ensure producers are protected and dealers are operating within the program rules. Dealers are still required to pay producers within ten trading days or by the date specified in a deferred payment arrangement.
To check the status of a grain dealer or elevator operator’s licence, enter all or part of the business name in the search field. Or for a list of all licensed dealers and operators, leave the search field empty. Then click
